PC
NOS
to HP
3000
systems
Netwarem for the HP 3000
brings the most commonly in-
stalled PC Network Operating
System (NOS) to the 900 Series
HP 3000. HP 3000 with NetWare
services will connect to existing
Novel1 networks or can be used to
build new NetWare networks and
provide the same services as
NetWare PC-based servers.
Clientlserver development envi-
ronment application program-
ming interface
(API)
-
Support
for interprocess communication
(IPC) capability that NetWare pro-
vides is important to developers
and end users.
File
and print sharing
-
File
sharing with familiar NetWare
file access, file allocation, and
administration features; NetWare
features such as resource ac-
counting, password protection,
and file backup are included. Ac-
cess to MS-DOS,
OS/2, or Apple
Macintosh files from HP MPE ap-
plications is provided by a set of
function calls when the server is
in operation. Printer sharing and
print queue management is pro-
vided through familiar NetWare
commands. Virtually any sup-
ported HP 3000 spooled printer
can be used to print from a
Net-
Ware server print queue.
Apple Macintosh connectivity
-
With the use of an HP Vectra PC
acting as a protocol converter,
NetWare for the HP 3000 looks
like an Apple file server.

2.1
connec-
tivity
-Access to existing
HP 3000 applications from a
NetWare client is important.
HP
NS2.1NS-DOS for NetWare
provides this capability, and is
ordered separately
(P/N D 18 19A).
HP Network Services 2.1NS-DOS
provides NetWare client-PCs run-
ning MS-DOS with Virtual Termi-
nal access, Network File
'hansfer,
and Network Interprocess Com-
munication connectivity to hosts
with the complementary NS
services.

HP
3000
Series
980/200
delivers impressive
performance
With two-way symmetric multi-
processing, the HP 3000 Series
980/200 is the first HP system that
provides the power of two pro-
cessors in a single system. The
HP 3000 Series
980/200 delivers
excellent performance scalability
with the addition of the second
processor. In benchmarks of a
major turbo-based HP 3000 manu-
facturing application, the perfor-
mance of the Series 9801200 has
been greater than 1.5 times that of
the uniprocessor Series 9801100.
Multibatch benchmarks (multi-
batch processing is typical in
overnight batch processing)
showed even greater performance
scaling, with the Series 9801200
delivering more than 1.7 times
better performance than the
Series 9801100. These bench-
mark results indicate that the
Series 9801200 delivers interactive
performance that is greater than
2.5 times the performance of
a Series 960, and batch perfor-
mance that is 3.4 times greater.
