Operating the system3–2
3.1 Booting the system
Before booting the system, ensure that all of the system components other than the servers—that is, the
storage arrays, management network, and so on—are turned on.
To boot the system, perform the following steps:
1. Turn on the power to the administration server.
The server boots automatically.
2. Log in to the administration server as root user.
3. Start the SFS CLI by entering the following command:
# sfsmgr
.
.
.
sfs>
The administration service, which is responsible for starting the database server, may not be ready
immediately after booting the administration server. If this is the case, the sfsmgr(8) command
displays the following prompt:
The database server is not yet ready, do you want to proceed? [n]:
Press the Return key to accept the default; the sfsmgr command then terminates. Wait for 10
seconds, then enter the sfsmgr command again. Continue trying at 10 second intervals until the
command is successful.
4. Boot the MDS server by entering the command shown in the following example:
sfs> boot server south2
5. Boot one server in each server pair by entering the command shown in the following example:
NOTE: The boot command turns on the power on the servers—you do not need to do this
manually.
sfs> boot server south[3,5,7]
